Jennifer Haigh is the author five novels, each of which nearly killed her. She is also the author of three unfinished and unfinishable manuscripts, woefully ill-conceived novels that will never see the light of day. In this session she will discuss which strategies worked and which ones didn’t with topics that include how to tell the difference between a novel and a short story; the most important choice a novelist makes; plot vs. causality; and what to do on days when nothing comes, among others. Whether you have a brand new idea for a novel or have been working on one for years, you can expect to leave with concrete strategies to move your project forward. Bring a laptop or pen and notebook, and your own questions about novel-craft.
