SMALL SCREEN SOUTHS: A WAY OF SEEING OURSELVES

Who doesn’t have a mental image of the South from a popular TV series, whether it’s The Andy Griffith Show, Designing Women, or, more recently, American Horror Story? In Small Screen Souths (LSU Press) writers explore our notions of region and identity in the cultural politics of television. Panelists include actress and author Laura Cayouette and actor Henry Griffin, and contributors Jennie Lightweis-Goff and Joanna Davis-McElligatt, along with moderator David Johnson discuss how the South, populated by such rich characters, has always been a great backdrop for drama and tension, sparking conversations in our living rooms and across the nation.
