John Pope

John Pope, author of Getting Off at Elysian Fields, an anthology of his obituaries and funeral stories, is a member of The Times-Picayune’s team that won two Pulitzer Prizes, a George Polk Award and a National Headliner Award for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. A New Orleans-based reporter since 1972, he earned degrees at the University of Texas, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
