Notes on Faux – Last Bohemia Fringe Festival Event (FRI)

Fauxnique returns to New Orleans to unbox her brand-new show. For Notes on Faux the herstory-making first cis-lady crowned as a pageant-winning drag queen and alter ego of writer/artist Monique Jenkinson gathers reflective, shiny objects from her memoir Faux Queen: A Life in Drag—the treasured gems as well as the baubles she forgot in the back of the closet and left in the cab—and lays them out on the cabaret stage. The result, as with all of her work, is a surprisingly philosophical spectacle, a glam critique that takes on the slippery subjects of artifice and authenticity, examining the many facets of their rhinestone façades under a queer light. See why Fauxnique broke through the glass ceiling of the male-dominated world of drag to become a queen among queens, and why Cabaret legend Justin Vivian Bond calls Jenkinson “the Jane Goodall of drag, and as Fauxnique … one of its most admired primates.”

This performance is part of The Last Bohemia Fringe Festival, a program of The Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival.
