Joanna Davis-McElligatt

Joanna Davis-McElligatt is associate professor of ethnic studies and English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her scholarly interests include the literature of the American South, Africana studies, critical race and postcolonial theory, comics studies, and studies in popular culture. Her current project, titled Black and Immigrant: The New African Diaspora in Twentieth- and Twenty-First Century American Literature, explores literary and historical representations of immigrants of African descent to the United States and makes the case that their experiences challenge traditional American conceptions of both immigrant and African American identity.
