Joel Dinerstein

Joel Dinerstein is a professor of English at Tulane University and the former Director of Tulane’s Center for the Gulf South. He is the author of a cultural history of swing music entitled Swinging the Machine: Modernity, Technology, and African-American Culture (2003) and more recently, The Origins of Cool in Postwar America (2017), a cultural history which features two chapters on Marlon Brando’s cool in The Fugitive Kind and A Streetcar Named Desire.
