Karen Kaia Livers is a native of New Orleans and has appeared on stage and in films for 45 years. Recently nominated for Best Actress at the Tribeca Film Festival US Narrative Competition for the lead role in Burning Cane, Karen’s credits are extensive beginning with her training at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Her latest feature film and television credits include Queen & Slim, Claws, Triple Nine, and Don’t Kill It. Her last theatrical tour included a finale performance at the Apollo Theater in “Swimming Up Stream,” collaborative writing by New Orleans women about surviving Hurricane Katrina directed by Tony Award winners Eve Ensler and Kenny Leon. She spent 23 years with the Alliance for Community Theaters, Inc. and was Executive Director of Act I for 13 years, assisting theater practitioners with arts administration and creative management, as well as producing ACT I: New Orleans Black Theater Festival for 20 years.
