Tony Award-winning actor John Cameron Mitchell is best known for the long-running off-Broadway rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch that became a Golden Globe nominated film in 2001. He has also earned three Obies and three Drama Desk Award nominations. His Greenwich House off-Broadway send up of The Seven Descents of Myrtle, titled Kingdom of Earth, stands as the highest profile attempt of a radical revision of a William’s play. His film Shortbus premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and won awards at International Film Festivals in Athens, Gijón, and Zurich. Mitchell has directed music videos for MTV, appeared in interviews on Politically Incorrect, and hosted Independent Film Channel programs. He is currently starring in Lorne Michaels’ Shrill with Aidy Bryant and on a covid hiatus from his touring show, Origin of Love, The Songs and Stories of Hedwig.
