Betsy Prioleau

Betsy Prioleau is an author and cultural historian. She received a PhD in American literature from Duke University and was a tenured associate professor at Manhattan College. She most recently taught cultural history at NYU. She is the author of The Circle of Eros: Sexuality in the Work of William Dean Howells, among others. Her new biography, Diamonds and Deadlines: A Tale of Greed, Deceit, and a Female Tycoon in the Gilded Age, reveals the sensational, unknown life of the brilliant Miriam Leslie, a titan of publishing and an unsung hero of women’s suffrage.
