Stephen Cedars

Stephen Cedars is a writer, director, teacher, and scholar originally from south Louisiana. Though rooted in performance studies, his academic research has been published in journals and book collections in the fields of philosophy, musicology, pedagogy, history, and literary studies. His plays have been published and produced throughout the US and Canada, and he works regularly as a stage director and producer both in New York City and in Colorado, where he runs a program dedicated to new play development. He also serves as Managing Artistic Director of JNS Theatre for Social Change. Cedars earned his MFA at New York University’s Department of Dramatic Writing, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in theater and performance at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
