Bess Rowen is a visiting assistant professor in the Theatre Department at Villanova University. Her work focuses on how stage directions can help expand our understanding of who we see on stage and what stories we tell there. This is the subject of her book, The Lines Between the Lines: How Stage Directions Affect Embodiment. She is a member of Actors’ Equity, the performance review editor at The Eugene O’Neill Review, and the conference planner for the American Theatre and Drama Society. She also works as a dramaturg and intimacy choreographer.
