Annette J. Saddik
Annette J. Saddik, Ph.D. is Distinguished Professor of Literature and Theatre at the City University of New York, specializing in 20th and 21st century drama, most notably the work of Tennessee Williams and theories of the grotesque. She has published over 50 essays on theatre and performance and four books, including Tennessee Williams and the Theatre of Excess; Contemporary American Drama, and a collection of Williams’s late plays, The Traveling Companion. Her first book on Williams, The Politics of Reputation, was the first full-length study of his later (post-1961) plays. Saddik has served as a Lortel voter, advises on productions internationally, and participates in audience “talk-backs” on and off Broadway. She sits on the board of the Journal of Contemporary Drama in English, and is Performance Review Editor of The Tennessee Williams Annual Review. Most recently, she has published essays and presented on playwrights Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Reza de Wet, Griselda Gambaro, Matei Vișniec, and Consuelo de Castro as part of her current book project on clowns and the grotesque.
