Sidney Thompson

Sidney Thompson is the author of The Bass Reeves Trilogy, award-winning historical fiction that is the inspiration for Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the upcoming Paramount+ miniseries directed by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923) and starring David Oyelowo, Dennis Quaid, and Donald Sutherland. Bass Reeves became the most successful lawman of the American Old West after escaping slavery and inspired the fictitious character the Lone Ranger. Thompson holds a Ph.D. in American literature/African-American narratives and an M.F.A. in creative writing. Thompson currently lives in Fort Worth, where he teaches creative writing and African-American literature at Texas Christian University.
